The well-known search engine “Google” was founded by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page 21 years ago on September 1998.

According to different sources, its name comes from math. First, it was decided as “googol” which is a math term meaning 10 raised to the power 100. However, they chose Google because it is a common spelling of googol. Now, even Oxford Dictionary has the word “Google” that means “to search for something online”.

World Wide Web was too new at that time and the goal of Brin and Page was collecting all www’s information so that is accessible and usable for all.

Although the formal birthday was on September 4, they celebrate the birthday on different days on September 8, September 26 or September 27.

Today, there are more and more different search engines. Google is one of the most well-known search engines.
